"FAT HARRY'S WINS
PRESTIGIOUS AWARD"
Despite being a brand-new business, Fat Harry’s has already received the prestigious SeaFish Friers Quality Award. Chipshops holding this award are nationally recognised for producing first class fish and chips in a first class environment. An approved inspector checks the shop's image, design and condition, selection of raw materials (fish, potatoes, oils, etc.), storage, hygiene and cleaning, product care, handling and temperature control, packaging, quality of the final product, management systems, training and skills. The award lasts for one year and is renewed if high standards are maintained.
Fat Harry’s is the first – and only – Fish & Chip restaurant on the Island to have received this award – a pretty good recommendation if you’re looking for somewhere to get your dinner on a Friday night!
All the food is freshly cooked to order, with the best quality potatoes (Maris Piper for preference – they make the best chips!) peeled and chipped on-site every day and, being a member of the Marine Conservation Society, Fat Harry’s are committed to using only the finest quality fish from the sustainable waters of the Barents Sea and Iceland.
Aside from a steady take-out trade (you can even phone your orders and pick them up to avoid queueing during busy times) there’s also seating for 28 and families are well catered for, with high-chairs and baby changing facilities (disabled facilities are also available). The dedicated children’s menu tries to steer clear of processed junk food, offering kids the same top quality fish that their parents get, and serving 100% chicken breast fillet nuggets and 2oz burgers made with 100% beef.
For people concerned with the nutritional value of fish & chips, here are a few interesting
facts:
-
According to the British Nutrition Foundation an average portion of fish and chips contains only 20.6g of fat and 396.8 kcal, so a portion can easily be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.
-
A portion of fish & chips provides three and a half times less saturated fat and two and a half times less salt than a cheese ploughman’s sandwich.
-
A portion of chips (175g) contain double the fibre, 75 times more folate (nature’s version of folic acid) and four times more vitamin C than an apple.
If you haven’t tried Fat Harry’s yet, you’re missing out – next time you’re in Sandown pop in for a taste of their award-winning fish &
chips.
